Feeding During Cold Weather

Many years ago (and I mean many), I worked for a woman who had show dogs and horses. The first thing that she taught me was that her dogs, who spent the entire day outside, needed more food during the cold winter months than during the spring, summer, and fall. I have always continued with this practice by feeding more in the winter.

I try to give the dogs more fat during cold weather so I pour all left over grease from meat into their Gravy Train. Yep, They get Gravy Train and yes, it is more expensive but they love it. Each gets one large margarine cup (45 ounces) of dry food and a can of some type food with one can full of warm water mixed in to warm them.
Although the goats graze all day on various grasses and small shrubs, I still supplement their feed by giving them 1/2 margarine cup (45ounces) of whole corn and 1/2 cup all stock sweet feed. In the winter, I also make sure that they have dry hay.
